Ryan Castoro, DO

Assistant Professor

Ryan Castoro, DO, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Missouri, a member of NextGen Precision Health, and a practicing neuromuscular physician specializing in peripheral neuropathies and inherited neuromuscular disease, including Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Trained at Baylor University, Oklahoma State University, Vanderbilt University and Wake Forest University, Dr. Castoro has developed a physician-scientist research program focused on proprioception, peripheral nerve aging and sensory-motor dysfunction across the lifespan. By integrating clinical neuromuscular care with molecular, physiological, imaging and functional approaches, Dr. Castoro investigates how aging and disease alter peripheral nerve integrity, sensory feedback and mobility. His translational research program combines clinical studies of neuropathy patients with mechanistic investigations in preclinical and cellular models to better understand the genetic and epigenetic drivers of peripheral nerve degeneration. His work aims to identify biomarkers and therapeutic strategies that preserve balance, movement and neuromuscular function in aging and inherited neuropathies. As both a clinician and researcher, Dr. Castoro is committed to advancing patient-centered translational neuroscience that bridges mechanistic discovery with meaningful functional outcomes.
