Andrea Sierra Delgado, MD

Assistant Professor

Dr. J. Andrea Sierra Delgado, MD, M.Sc is an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Missouri’s NextGen Precision Health Institute, where she is passionate about advancing next-generation therapies for rare and ultra-rare neurodevelopmental and neuromuscular disorders. With a background in medicine, she integrates clinical understanding with molecular neuroscience to drive translational research and the development of potential treatments for patients with complex neurological conditions.

Her research focuses on neurodevelopmental, neuromuscular, and other central nervous system (CNS) disorders, including epilepsy and autism spectrum conditions. She leads preclinical disease-modeling and IND-enabling studies that integrate patient-derived neuronal, astrocytic, and glial systems with AAV-based gene delivery and in vivo validation. In parallel, she explores drug repurposing and combination-therapy approaches to identify complementary or synergistic treatment avenues for these rare diseases.

By bridging molecular neuroscience, translational modeling, and clinical application, Dr. Sierra Delgado is building a framework that connects discovery science with real-world therapeutic development.
